My review of BeFrugal

Like any frugal person, I was always on the search for an easy way to find new deals as well as earn cash back. I first became aware of BeFrugal.com several years ago and once I did, it has always become a favorite go-to of mine. 

How do you earn cash back?

It is an online marketplace that works with many different companies and gives you an opportunity to earn cash back for purchases you make through them. While I normally don’t really pay attention to “cash back” offers because it often seems like a ploy to get you to buy things you don’t really need, BeFrugal often has good cash back offers for things that you might actually need. 

I’ve learned that you have to check it pretty often, as the offers fluctuate, but I have gotten some good cash back on previous purchases I made. One example is, we were putting in new flooring in our home, and they had a 4% cash back offer for Lumber Liquidators. While 4% doesn’t seem like much at all, on a purchase of over $2,000 (that we already planned to make anyway) it made for a nice bonus of $90. We also file our taxes with TurboTax, and every tax season they offer a pretty sizable offer for Turbo Tax. This past year, it was 15%, so we got back $26. Other big brands such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, Kohl’s, Macy’s, and many others from time to time will have pretty good deals. As of this writing, they are currently offering 21% cash back for Adidas. 

In addition to cash back offers, the website also actually has discounts they pull in as well from their network of companies. Sometimes, they have daily deals as well that may be even deeper discounts.

I think in my 5 years of being a customer, I have gotten back over $300 from my purchases. Is it a huge amount? No, but getting anything back is always a nice perk, especially when it is buying items that you need or already planned for in the budget.

It is very simple to use. You have to first create an account with BeFrugal. Then, on their site or app, you click on the brand or deal you see, and it will take you to their website. One thing to note however is you must only use that window to make the purchase, and you have to do it within a fairly short amount of time. I learned the hard way, I had opened a couple of different sheets in my Google Chrome browser and apparently didn’t use the right one with the referral link, so a purchase I made was not eligible for the offer. And one time I didn’t make the purchase in a timely manner so I never received cash-back. A little frustrating, but now I know.

Overall though, I recommend their website, and their app as well. It is handy to have, anytime we have something we need to start looking for, I normally check the app first to see what websites have good deals first.
